Panthers shred Countryside, 48-12, in playoff opener

GAINESVILLE, FL — A motivated BCS (8-3) team loaded up for a 3-hour road trip north to Gainesville to take on No. 8 Countryside Christian on Friday night. The Panthers seized control early and never looked back, cruising to a 48-12 first round playoff win.

Offensively, the team showcased what makes them dangerous – offense! BCS finished with 344 total yards, including 219 on the ground and 125 through the air. Freshman Cohen Fuller put together an unbelievable performance, rushing for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 10 carries while adding 95 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns – five total touchdowns and 291 yards of total offense.

Senior quarterback Holland Hume led the passing attack, completing 6 of 11 passes for 125 yards and 3 touchdowns while also delivering two successful 2-point conversion passes. Freshman Mason Masingil added a receiving touchdown, and the team’s other playmakers continued to find ways to make things happen on both sides of the ball.

Also deserving of a shout out, an unheralded offensive line that opened big running lanes all night. Those guys deserve just as much recognition as anyone on the stat sheet. The holes, the protection, the physicality, and the effort up front allowed the offense to operate at the level it did. None of those big plays happen without the work in the trenches.

Defensively, the defensive line deserves tremendous credit as well. The physicality, pressure, and relentless effort – for all four quarters – up front helped set the tone for our defense. That defensive unit made life difficult for Minutemen’s (6-3) offense all night.

Up next in the State Quarterfinals is a trip to top-ranked and undefeated Merritt Island Christian (11-0). The Cougars dispatched Lake Mary Prep, 42-7, in the first round on Friday.
